Buy Turbotax 2016 Online
Since the turbotax screen I first came across provides only for doing taxes online (which I don't want to do), and no option for downloading, I checked the Help feature and found a link to a download site. My first attempt was unsuccessful but I found a Google Chrome help screen suggesting I cancel my download attempt and try later - which I did (a few hours later) - but this time using a right click on the Download button and selecting Save link as. When I did this I was successful - up to the point where I needed the Installation Key from my receipt. At no point prior to downloading was I prompted to sign in or to make a payment. Now; how do I make my payment and get the installation key that I need to finish the job?

Last year I used TurboTax Business 2019, importing data from QuickBooks Pro 2016 Desktop. Worked very well. Ready to purchase TurboTax Business 2020, and wanted to confirm that it is compatible with my QB 2016.
Thanks for confirming. So that there is no confusion in the community, you listed all of the TurboTax versions except for TurboTax Business (which is a distinct product from Home & Business product). TurboTax Business, which is designed for C corporation, S corporations, LLCs, partnerships, trust/estate returns) is the product I use and also will import QuickBooks Desktop (but not QuickBooks Online) data files. My understanding from Intuit FAQs is QuickBooks Online users have to first export to the desktop version of QuickBooks, then import into TurboTax. It sounded like online users have to install some kind of trial of temporary version of QuickBooks Desktop (i.e. not have to purchase a full copy) because QuickBooks and TurboTax must both be installed locally on the same computer to work with each other.
I have the same issue because I run Quickbooks MAC and then save as .qbb to import into TurboTax Business running under windows on Parallels. Does anyone else have info about this trial/temporary version of QB Desktop so that TurboTax will recognize the installation?. It sounded like online users have to install some kind of trial of temporary version of QuickBooks Desktop (i.e. not have to purchase a full copy) because QuickBooks and TurboTax must both be installed locally on the same computer to work with each other."
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

The company has been subject of controversy over its political influence and deceptive business practices. Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, has lobbied extensively against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) creating its own online system of tax filing like those that exist in most other wealthy countries.[4][5][6] Intuit is under investigation by multiple state attorneys general, as well as New York State Department of Financial Services.[7][8]
In 2003, Intuit faced vocal criticism for its TurboTax activation scheme.[17] The company responded by removing the product activation scheme from its product. In 2005 TurboTax extended its offering by allowing any taxpayer to use a basic version of its federal product for free as part of the Free File Alliance. By 2006 that offer has been limited to free federal online tax preparation and e-file for taxpayers whose adjusted gross income is $28,500 or less (or $52,000 for those in the military) and those 50 or under. TurboTax has received a number of complaints regarding its advertising of the free version. For filers who use this basic version of the software, federal filing is free. However, state tax filing is not free, and the cost of using TurboTax to file state returns is not presented to the user until they've already completed entering their information for federal returns.

A TAX2016 file is a United States tax return created with the 2016 version of Intuit TurboTax. It contains a user's personal information and federal IRS tax forms. It may also include one or more state forms for the 2016 tax year. TAX2016 files may be encrypted if saved with password protection since they store sensitive personal and financial data.
To save time on your taxes, TurboTax allows you to import data from your previous tax return into a new TAX2016 document. You can select "Use a tax return that's on my computer" when prompted at the beginning of the tax return process. If you want to import data from a 2015 TurboTax return, select the file with the .TAX2015 extension. You can import data from 2015 TaxACT and H&R Block .PDF tax files as well.
You will most likely only see a TAX2016 file if you are using the desktop version of TurboTax, which is available for both Windows and Mac. However, the TAX2016 file may also be exported from TurboTax Online. To export a TAX2016 file from TurboTax Online, click "Tools," then select "Save your 2016 return to your computer." You can then open the return in the desktop version of TurboTax.
Once you have completed your return in TurboTax, you can either print and mail the tax forms or file the 2016 tax return electronically. The "e-file" process is free for federal returns, but usually requires a fee to file state returns electronically.
