This is the most Christmas sugar cookie arrangement ever! Super easy to assemble and decorate unlike gingerbread houses! I whipped up a batch of green buttercream for my tree the day before, chilled it and let it come to room temperature the next day.

The rings of a tree give us a lot of information about the age of the tree, its health, and the climate conditions during each year of its growth. Just for fun, predict the number of rings on each of the tree cookies above. They are about the same size, but are they of the same age? Count the rings and find out.

The tree cookie on the left has many tight rings. It is from an older tree that grew with more competition. The fact that the center rings are offset indicates that the tree either grew on a slope or had to grow around some sort of obstruction.

Sugar- Granulated sugar is used for the cookie dough and powdered sugar for the glaze! Butter- Room temperature butter is the key to making these cookies extra delicious and flakey! Cream Cheese- A great addition to a traditional sugar cookie make with just butter, cream cheese adds a soft texture and a tangy flavor that is so delicious with the sugar glaze.Egg-Just one egg needed! Baking Powder- Making these cookies soft and chewy! Extract- Vanilla extract is a great addition to this soft and chewy cookie, but you can always add almond extract for a fun burst of flavorMilk- Whole milk for the glaze is the best option, but 2% will also work! Don't use skim milk

Chill TimeGive yourself enough time to allow the dough to chill. When making shortbread or sugar cookies the dough needs time to rest and chill before rolling out, cutting and baking.

GlazeI am loving this silky smooth and thin glaze that is easy to dip the cookies in, but you can adjust the glaze by adding more or less milk to make it the consistency you love.

Store and SaveThis Cream Cheese Sugar Cookie recipe is great to make in advance. Make the dough and refrigerate it until you are ready to bake. Once the cookies are baked you can keep the cookies in an airtight container for up to 4 day and then glaze one day before you are ready to serve.

Bake the cookies for about 5 minutes, and take the smaller size cookies out of the oven. The edges of the cookies should be set but not browned, and the centers will still look slightly moist. Continue cooking the larger size cookies for another 3-4 minutes, then remove them from the oven as well to cool. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling completely.

Stack two of each size cookie together, starting with the largest on bottom and using a dab of icing between each cookie to hold them together. Add one of the smallest top cookies you made on top and sprinkle the cookie trees generously with powdered sugar for a snowy effect.

Options: Add some color to the trees by sprinkling the dough with colored sugar before baking, making sure the edges are well coated. You could also make the trees even bigger by using some of the larger cookie cutters in the set.

Combine 4 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 cup butter and vanilla in bowl. Beat at low speed, adding enough milk and scraping bowl often, until desired spreading consistency. Tint frosting with food color, if desired. Decorate cookies with frosting. Decorate with sprinkles or decorator candies, if desired. .

As you'll notice when we dive into the simple ingredient list, these peanut butter cookies are gluten free. They're naturally gluten free so there's no need to buy any special flour or change up what is going on here. Anyone can enjoy these without making special changes.

Can you believe how easy that is? You will also need some baking pans, cooling racks, a cookie cutter of your choice (or you can easily use a cookie scoop and just make round cookies), and a spatula to get them off the pans!

It is important to let them cool for 5 minutes on the sheets before you try and transfer them. Like most peanut butter cookies, especially flour free cookies, they are soft when they are done baking. They will firm up a bit during those last five minutes and be easier to transfer without breaking.

I really wanted to create a Christmas Tree Cookie. I know they are EEEEverywhere, but I think the reason for this phenomenon is that they are so magical and festive! This shortbread is an offshoot of my no-chill cutout cookies, and that recipe has been a staple in our home for years. I have a feeling that this one will also be on repeat going forward, as a chocolate variety for anything is always a win.

Prepare the sugar cookie dough. Roll the dough out the 1/4-inch thick, use the staggered star cookie cutters once each to create cookies, and bake according to the recipe. Remove the cookies from the oven and cool completely on a wire rack. Return the cookies to two baking sheets for easy transporting.

Portion half the icing into a piping bag fitted with a #3 tip. Outline each star cookie using the icing in the piping bag. Reserve any remaining piping icing for decorating the tree. (Put the whole piping bag, as is, in a Tupperware container, cover and refrigerate.)

To assemble and decorate the tree, place the largest star on your serving plate. Place the second largest cookie on top of the first, but turn the second cookie so the points of the stars are alternating. Dot the corners of the bottom cookie with piping icing. Place one confetti sprinkle on each dot.

Repeat by adding the next biggest star on top of the stack, alternating the star points, and add icing dots to the bottom cookie and confetti sprinkles. (If you wait to add the dots until the next cookie is placed on top you can see where the visible areas of the points are.)

We would ask our guests to bring a couple of dozen cookies and then they would be able to gather an assortment to take home. Our family loves coconut cookies so these Snow-Covered Coconut Christmas Tree cookies were our contribution at several of our gatherings.
