Three Years Of Mac

After paying upfront for an AppleCare+ plan for a Mac, the initial coverage period remains three years, but customers now have the option to purchase additional coverage that automatically renews annually until canceled. The new coverage must be purchased within 30 days of the end date of the original coverage, according to Apple.

Three Years of Mac

The current Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR launched three years ago today, marking Apple's return to a modular tower design for its flagship desktop Mac, as well as the company's re-entry into the external display market.

For example, in cell A6, the YEAR function is used on the date in cell A2 (6/9/2009), and it returns 2009 as the year. The formula then adds 3 (the value in cell B2) to the year value, which results in 2012. In the same formula, the MONTH function returns the value 6, and the DAY function returns the value 9. The DATE function then combines these three values into a date that is three years in the future: 6/9/2012.

For example, in cell A5, the YEAR function is used on the date in cell A2 (6/9/2012), and it returns 2012 as the year. The formula then adds 1 to the year value, which results in 2013. The MONTH function returns the value 6, and 7 months are added to that value. Because the total of 6 months plus 7 months is 13 months, the DATE function adds 1 year to the year value, resulting in 2014. The DATE function then subtracts 12 from the month value, resulting in a value of 1 for the month. The DAY function returns the value 9, and 5 days are added to that, resulting in 14. Finally, the DATE function combines these three values (2014, 1, and 14) into a date that is one year, seven months, and 5 days in the future: 1/14/2014.

As noted in the newsletter, an annual AppleCare+ subscription for a new 16-inch MacBook Pro runs $140 a year compared to $380 for Apple's three-year plan. Customers who keep the annual subscription for three years end up paying a $40 premium. On the other end of the spectrum, the premium for a 13-inch MacBook Air runs $10 over the same period.

Apple's new coverage structure for Mac arrives roughly four months after the company introduced an option to extend an existing AppleCare+ plan beyond the normal three-year period. Mac owners in the U.S. can opt to add a year of coverage, to be renewed annually, within 30 days after the original plan's expiration.

On the season, Jones has thrown for 1,176 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 81 of his 116 passes (69.8 percent). Although he threw for a career-best 335 yards and four touchdowns at Auburn, Jones also threw two pick-sixes in a 48-45 loss.

After four years of problems with my 2012 Retina MacBook Pro, including a rather spectacular and repeated keyboard failure, I was an early adopter of the 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro. The Thunderbolt 3 life, with Apple's ultimate realization of "one cable to rule them all" it had been trying since the HDI-45 days, was appealing.

We still don't know what Apple specifically altered, beyond the "missing digital key" that it spoke about in the statement at the time. But, in the last three years, the problem never cropped up again, so the fix obviously stuck.

As it pertains to keeping heat off the machine as a whole, while at my desk for half of the workday and after-hours, I have the MacBook Pro connected to an eGPU that has varied somewhat over the years. For the other half of the workday and away from my home, I obviously don't. The eGPUs support my monitor array, which I've shown before.

Since 2018, I put about half the words I write on the keyboard integral to the MacBook Pro and half on various wireless external keyboards over the years. I have yet to see the keyboard failure or stuck keys. In the same time period, the 2016 MacBook Pro I mentioned above has seen it twice.

And, as it pertains to longevity and reliability, we're still collecting that failure data on the keyboards and overall survivability. While we're not going to beat the drum too profoundly here because we have done so before, the overall failure rates in the first three years of ownership of the 2012 redesign and the 2018 MacBook Pro are comparable. Through the first three years of ownership, the 2018 has a slightly lower overall failure rate than the 2012 though 2015 models, and the 2016 model is a very slightly higher one.

Apple says that the battery in the 2018 MacBook Pro is good for about 1000 cycles. I'm up to 554 after three solid years of work. Many of the battery-saving routines were introduced after the initial release of the 2018 MacBook Pro, but I'm still guessing I've got about two years left of operational life on it, assuming I don't need to get the keyboard replaced in the next year.

Had we not purchased the gear and relied on hypothetical loaners, we'd not have known about the thermal issues at launch and not been able to test the patch. After that very early firmware patch fixing the thermals, this machine has enough grunt for everything I need it for. In addition, it has the long-term reliability that folks attribute solely to the 2012 through 2015 models and will likely tide me over personally for a few more years.

And, the creative and enterprise folks that I've spoken to about the other 15-inch 2018 MacBook Pro are of the same mind as it pertains to hanging on to the model. Given Intel's repeated "tock" instead of "tick-tock," the 2018 models for folks with sterner hardware requirements than my own are seeing very similar performance to the last of Intel Mac hardware. Plus, the gear on hand has the advantage of being purchased several years ago, amortizing the cost over the years at this point.

The times, they are a-changin', though. Instead of the top of the heap for portable workstations, the day is rapidly approaching where Apple Silicon at the low-end will even more dramatically leapfrog these once high-end workstations instead of the inching that we've seen for the last two years under Intel's yoke. For most, that will be the time to upgrade to whatever is at the higher-end, which we're expecting to see at least the start of at the end of 2021.

And, three years later, I refuse to give it X out of 5 stars, Google be damned. There are enough variables between users, that a very difficult task in assigning a universal rating for a new product is made impossible considering all the factors that need to be weighed if a three-year-old computer is worth it to any given user.

Quantified benefits. The following benefits reflect the three-year financial analysis associated with the composite organization. Although the M1 Macs are relatively new, Forrester leveraged data and the financial model framework from the 2019 study along with new data collected through additional interviews to forecast the following results:

In related news, Apple updated a support article this week in which it mentions that customers who have already purchased an AppleCare+ plan for Mac can finally extend it beyond three years. Previously, customers had no way to renew their AppleCare+ coverage after the three-year period was over.

According to the company, the new coverage must be purchased at least 30 days before the end of the original AppleCare+ coverage; otherwise, renewal will not be possible. Extending AppleCare+ coverage for Mac beyond three years is only available in the US and requires payment that renews annually.

Meanwhile, a November 16 trial has been set for the three men accused of selling Miller the drugs that led to his death. Cameron James Pettit allegedly sold Miller counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl two days before his death, which were run to Pettit by Ryan Reavis and supplied by Stephen Walter. Miller had asked Pettit for Percocet, a prescribed painkiller containing oxycodone, in addition to cocaine and Xanax. Prosecutors are claiming that the narcotics were counterfeit and laced with fentanyl. The men have been held without bail for over two years in Los Angeles.

Owners of iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac, or Apple TV products may obtain service and parts from Apple service providers, including Apple Retail Stores and Independent Repair Providers, for a minimum of 5 years from when Apple last distributed the product for sale.

Service and parts may be obtained for longer, as required by law or for up to 7 years, subject to parts availability. Additionally, Mac laptops may be eligible for an extended battery-only repair period for up to 10 years from when the product was last distributed for sale, subject to parts availability.

For products purchased in France, see Statutory Warranties of Seller and Spare Parts. Owners of new iPhone or Mac laptop products purchased after December 31, 2020 in France, may obtain service and parts from Apple or Apple service providers for 7 years from the date the product model was last supplied by Apple for distribution into France.

Apple hardware typically lasts much longer than that from competing manufacturers. Lots of people have Macs that are 10 or even 20 years old that still work. And there are a few that are even older than that.

To get a three-year comparison, you can set the Show Columns to Year. Then, you can change the date range to a period of three years. I bet you're trying to check how profitable your business is in the span of 3 years.

I'm looking to build a sales report for a single period but for more than 2 years. So that I can see sales to date over 3 or years in a single report. From what I can see my only option is to create a YTD report and and modify it to show previous year or to change the dates on the report and modify the report to have the columns show years. The problem with each of these is that the first report only compares to one year and the second of these compares the prior two full years to this years YTD. Am I missing something?
